It seems that Wydad Athletic Club is preparing to make a surprising move in the summer transfer market, as reports indicate that the club’s management has included veteran Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib among its targets to strengthen the team’s front line for the upcoming season.
According to the same sources, Wydad, led by its president Hicham Ait Mana, has opened communication channels with Boutaib, who is currently without a club after the expiration of his last contract, making him available to sign as a free agent. Reports also suggest that former international Nordin Amrabat, a current Wydad player, is acting as a mediator in the negotiations, leveraging the relationship he has with his former national team colleague to persuade him to experience playing in the Moroccan league for the first time in his career.
Boutaib, aged 38, has an extensive football career, having played for various European and Arab clubs, including Ajaccio and Strasbourg in France, Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey, and Zamalek in Egypt. He also represented the “Atlas Lions” in the 2018 World Cup, scoring 8 goals in 20 international matches.
Boutaib’s current market value is estimated at €150,000, according to Transfermarkt, while Wydad’s management is banking on the player’s experience and goal-scoring ability to enhance the team’s offensive effectiveness, particularly in light of the need for a striker capable of making a difference in crucial matches.
