The National Fisheries Office reported that the total value of marketed coastal and traditional fishing products exceeded 4.81 billion dirhams by the end of June 2025, despite a 17% decrease in landed quantities compared to the same period in 2024, which settled at 391,353 tons.

Shellfish experienced an exceptional increase in value of 275%, while the value of white fish rose by 13% and mollusks by 2%. Conversely, the landed quantities of algae fell by 56%, and surface fish by 11%, which directly impacted the total production volume.

In terms of quantities, shellfish rose by 227% to reach 77 tons, while white fish quantities grew by 14% to 55,843 tons. However, mollusks saw a 10% decrease to 28,956 tons, and the quantities of algae dropped by 61% to 2,316 tons, along with a 21% decline in surface fish to 300,581 tons, in addition to a 7% decrease in crustaceans to 3,580 tons.

Geographically, Mediterranean ports witnessed a 13% increase in landed quantities, amounting to 8,158 tons, along with a 15% rise in value to surpass 391.3 million dirhams. In contrast, Atlantic ports recorded a 17% drop in weight to 383,195 tons, while value slightly declined by 1% to settle at 4.42 billion dirhams.

These indicators reflect significant changes in Morocco’s fishing sector, where the drop in quantity production is accompanied by improved financial returns for certain species amidst changing environmental and marketing conditions.
