The Competition Council reported that the revenue of wholesale distribution companies for diesel and petrol reached 77.3 billion dirhams in 2024, marking a decrease of 3% compared to 2023.
The council explained in its report for the first quarter of 2025 that this figure pertains to nine companies involved in settlement agreements with the council, adding that diesel represented 85% of the sales volume and 83% of the total financial value.
The report noted a growth in the number of service stations, rising from 3,350 stations at the end of 2023 to 3,534 at the end of 2024, an increase of 184 new stations. The nine companies mentioned in the report own 2,535 stations, equivalent to 72% of the total, after adding 51 new stations compared to the previous year.
Other market players not covered by the report saw significant growth in their number of stations, reaching 999 in 2024 compared to 866 in 2023. This growth increased their market share from 25.9% to 28.3%, reflecting a trend towards enhancing competition in the fuel distribution sector.
