Moroccan critic Abdallah Sadouki has released a new critical study titled “Reading Dissection in Readable Dissection: Textual Interactions with Moroccan Poetry Texts,” published by the Dar Al-She’r in Marrakech in its first edition of 2024.

This study spans 150 pages in a medium format, adorned with a cover design by artist and calligrapher Lahsan Al-Farsiwi. It stands out as one of the prominent new critical publications in the field of contemporary Moroccan poetry.

This work was selected for the “Poetic Criticism” award aimed at young critics and researchers, as part of its fifth edition, reinforcing the role of Dar Al-She’r in Marrakech in encouraging young critical talents and advancing scientific research related to Moroccan poetry.

Sadouki’s study does not aim to provide a comprehensive reading of selected poetic experiences, but rather seeks to highlight specific poetic models that contribute to showcasing the characteristics of modern Moroccan poetry, particularly in terms of its aesthetic structures and artistic formations. In this context, “reading dissection” operates on analyzing poetic texts and attempting to reveal their artistic and semantic features, leading to the emergence of interactive critical discussions with the poetic phenomena and textual formations it establishes.

This critical work represents a qualitative addition to Moroccan critical literature, especially given the ongoing creative movement in the poetic landscape, as evidenced by the publications from Dar Al-She’r in Marrakech, which places a special emphasis on young researchers, believing in their capability to keep pace with poetic transformations and to provide deep and contemporary readings.

The Dar celebrated this publication as part of the eighth edition of the national forum “Hurouf” for young poets and critics, held last June. This forum is considered one of the largest cultural spaces in Morocco, offering a platform to celebrate new literary and critical voices, affirming the ongoing commitment of Dar Al-She’r to the future of poetry and criticism.

Thus, Abdallah Sadouki’s “reading dissection” exemplifies the new generation of Moroccan critics who confidently carve their path in the literary field, within a broader cultural project through which Dar Al-She’r in Marrakech seeks to build a continuous bridge between poetic creativity and critical discourse.
