The Public Prosecution Authority reveals its new strategy: Protecting rights and rationalizing pre-trial detention
Hicham Belawi, the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and head of the Public Prosecution, presented the strategic plan for the Public Prosecution Authority for the period 2026-2029 during a communication meeting held at the headquarters in Rabat this morning. The meeting was attended by officials from various public prosecutors across the country.
The new plan aims to enhance the performance of public prosecutors through nine main pillars, including the protection of rights and freedoms, combating corruption, qualifying human resources, and developing digital judicial services.
The Attorney General emphasized the importance of the phase the justice system is experiencing, considering the national and international challenges, as well as the legislative changes occurring in Morocco, particularly in the areas of alternative penalties and criminal procedure.
In this context, Belawi highlighted the need to improve the quality of service provided to clients, accelerate the processing of complaints, unify practices among public prosecutors, and rationalize the recourse to pre-trial detention.
The Public Prosecution Authority announced the adoption of a “contracting and performance evaluation” system with judicial officials, alongside the establishment of a “Council of General Prosecutors” to follow up on criminal policy and enhance regional coordination.
The meeting, which comes in the context of implementing the High Royal Directions, underscored the importance of enhancing the independence of the judiciary and reinforcing citizens’ trust in justice, under the slogan:
A citizen-friendly prosecution… safeguarding community security and guaranteeing rights and freedoms.
