The Moroccan national rugby team achieved a well-deserved victory over Uganda, winning 24 to 12 in a match held on Sunday in Kampala. This game was part of the placement rounds for positions five to eight in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is taking place in Uganda until July 21.

This win gives the “Atlas Lions” a strong boost following their disappointing exit from the quarter-finals against Zimbabwe, where they lost 43 to 8 in a match last Tuesday. The Moroccan team managed to maintain its position in Group A of the African league, ensuring its continuation among the elite of the continental teams.

Next, the national team will face Senegal in a match to determine the fifth place, a game expected to be crucial for enhancing Morocco’s standing in the African rankings.

Morocco reached the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Tunisia 26 to 12 in a decisive match held last February at the Abou Jiloud Stadium in Casablanca, securing a spot in this continental final.

This tournament holds significant importance, as the African champion directly qualifies for the Rugby World Cup scheduled to take place in Australia in 2027, while the runner-up gets an additional opportunity through participation in the Nations Cup to secure a World Cup berth.
