The administration of the local prison in Toulal 1, located in Meknes, issued a statement on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, refuting claims made in a video posted by the father of an inmate. The father accused the prison management of preventing him from visiting his son and subjecting him to mistreatment by the staff member responsible for organizing visits.
The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration confirmed in its statement that the concerned individual arrived at the facility on Monday, July 28, without a prior appointment, which is a standard procedure applicable to all inmates and their families. The responsible staff member attempted to explain this to the inmate’s father, but he refused to cooperate and posted a video on social media in an effort to exert pressure for a visit, despite the fact that the scheduled day for visiting his son was Thursday, not Monday, according to the established visiting schedule at the facility.
The administration clarified that the inmate’s father is a former inmate himself, known for his criminal background. He had previously been detained in the local prison in Kenitra and was convicted on charges including insulting judicial officers and public officials, publishing images of individuals without their consent, spreading false allegations affecting private life and defamation, as well as failing to pay financial fines owed to the state. He had also been subjected to an investigation related to cases of assault, public intoxication, theft, insulting officials, and selling contraband cigarettes and alcohol without a license.
