The management of the local prison in Tan-Tan clarified on July 28, 2025, the truth behind claims circulating on social media regarding “the attempted suicide of an inmate by consuming medication intended for scabies treatment.” The statement emphasized that the incident involved self-harm without risking the inmate’s life.

The communication directed to the public indicated that the inmate in question, identified as M.K., had, on July 25, 2025, inflicted superficial injuries on his face and hand using a sharp object he had taken from a bathroom door. He also claimed to have ingested a large amount of medication intended for treating scabies. Immediately, he was transferred to the hospital, where examinations revealed no traces of the medication he purportedly consumed, and the injuries were superficial and did not require stitches, allowing him to return to the facility the same day.

The prison management confirmed that the allegation regarding the inmate using a glass bottle to harm himself is unfounded, clarifying that all medications dispensed to inmates are provided in plastic containers, ensuring safety within the institution.

The statement further noted that the inmate is a repeat offender, having been convicted three times previously, and is currently serving a ten-year sentence for theft using a weapon during the commission of the crime.

The management concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of inmates while responding to claims not based on accurate facts, in order to maintain transparency and public trust.
