The management of the local prison in Nador has issued a statement in response to reports circulating on various media platforms and social media regarding what has been described as the “mysterious death” of a young inmate who was incarcerated at the facility.

In its statement released on July 19, 2025, the administration confirmed that the inmate in question (M.Q.), who was serving a sentence for the illegal trafficking of alcoholic beverages, was suffering from a severe illness affecting his throat, and that his health condition was under continuous medical supervision within the prison.

The administration explained that on July 18 of this month, the inmate was transferred to the regional hospital in Nador after experiencing difficulties in breathing. They added that he had previously been transferred to the same hospital on three occasions and was taken to Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda on July 17 for necessary medical care before returning to the prison on the same day.

In response to the circulating accusations, the prison administration expressed regret over what it described as attempts by certain parties to “mislead public opinion by disseminating malicious news suggesting the presence of unnatural deaths within prisons,” asserting that the prison’s health care service provides necessary treatments to all inmates without discrimination.

The administration stressed that any death occurring within the institution is subject to existing legal procedures, with the appropriate prosecutor being notified to carry out necessary investigations, including an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.

The statement concluded by reiterating the prison administration’s commitment to respecting the rights of inmates and providing them with health care in accordance with the applicable legal and humanitarian standards.
