The Family Business Institute in Morocco Enhances Intergenerational Transition and Revitalizes Its Leadership in the “Passing the Torch” Symposium
In a significant event, the Family Business Institute of Morocco (IEF-Maroc) held its ordinary general assembly, marked by a national symposium titled “Passing the Torch,” focusing on the intergenerational transition within family businesses. This is a strategic issue that intertwines human aspects with governance and management. During the assembly, a new executive board for the 2025-2027 term was elected, renewing confidence in Qasem Benani Simers as president, with Amin Benkirane elected as the first vice president, succeeding Jalil Benabbas Attarji, who played a crucial role in founding the institute.
Since its establishment in 2023, the institute has successfully unified over forty family businesses from various regions of Morocco around a common vision aimed at enhancing continuity, valuing these businesses’ contributions to the national economy, and developing modern governance practices.
Furthermore, the institute has formed strategic partnerships with the Family Business Institute in Spain (IEF-España), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Family Business Network International (FBN International), solidifying its position as a reference platform at both national and continental levels.
The national symposium, inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, featured two roundtable discussions on the complexities of intergenerational transition from administrative, financial, and human perspectives. Entrepreneurs shared their personal experiences in passing the torch within their businesses.
The institute continues to support Moroccan family businesses at various stages of their development through initiatives such as the NextGen Group, studies, and awareness activities, emphasizing the qualification of new leaders, fostering a governance culture, and ensuring a smooth and sustainable transition between generations.
