The management of the local prison in Larache announced the death of inmate (Y.A.), who was detained under the anti-terrorism law in connection with what has been referred to in the media as the “Shamharouch Cell,” on the evening of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, inside his solitary confinement cell.
According to a press release issued by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration, the deceased inmate suffered from psychological disorders and was receiving appropriate treatments and medications for his health condition. It was noted that he was examined by the prison doctor on the same day prior to his death, after complaining of cold symptoms.
The same source added that, upon registering the death, the pertinent public prosecutor was notified, and members of the Royal Gendarmerie were sent to the scene to examine the body, in the presence of the prison doctor. The inmate’s family was also informed as required by law.
It is worth mentioning that the inmate was among those convicted in the “Shamharouch case,” which shocked public opinion both inside and outside Morocco, regarding the murder of two foreign tourists in the Imlil area of the Al Haouz region.
