The 13th edition of the National Rwais Arts Festival kicked off yesterday evening in Dcheira El Jihadia (Inzikan Ait Melloul Province), organized under the theme “Tiroisa: An Authentic Heritage and Continuous Contribution,” under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Culture Sector.
The opening ceremony featured the honoring of a number of pioneers of Rwais art and the awarding of winners in the seventh edition of the Youth Rwais competition, alongside the performance of “Symphony of Rwais” by groups representing this rich artistic heritage.
Hicham Abkari, Director of the Arts Department at the ministry, stated in a comment to the Moroccan News Agency that this event is part of the ministry’s efforts to preserve Tiroisa art and ensure its continuity through activities that allow the public to discover this heritage and engage with it.
Abkari highlighted that the festival serves as a platform to pass this art onto the new generations through various artistic segments and scientific sessions, considering that celebrating Rwais is a celebration of Moroccan cultural identity and its historical depth.
The organizers indicated that this year’s edition is held in partnership with the Inzikan Ait Melloul Province and the Dcheira El Jihadia Municipal Council, with an extended duration of four days to enable more than 25 groups to participate, emphasizing the principle of openness to innovative experiences and neighboring arts.
The festival features performances by stars of Amazigh music from the Atlas and Rif regions, in addition to artistic segments within the local prisons of Ait Melloul 1 and 2, as part of efforts to enhance the social dimension of the festival.
The program also allocates space for scientific and professional aspects through discussions on issues of copyright and health coverage for artists, aiming to equip practitioners of this art with legal and institutional tools to ensure the continuity of their artistic contributions.
