Response:
The management of Ain Sebaa 1 prison responded on Monday, July 21, 2025, to public inquiries regarding videos circulating on various websites and social media. In these videos, an individual claimed that “his adopted son was attacked with a knife by inmates at the instigation of a staff member,” alongside accusations of “drug use within the facility.”
The statement issued by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration affirmed that the circulated claims are entirely unfounded. It clarified that the incident involving inmate (M.E.) indeed took place on the same morning, where he got into a violent altercation with two other inmates, using a metal object and another locally made tool. This resulted in severe head injuries, necessitating his transfer to the hospital, while one of the other inmates sustained a wound requiring five stitches, treated within the facility’s clinic.
The prison administration indicated that the implicated inmate is known for his aggressive behavior, having previously committed 12 infractions within the institution, all related to acts of violence. It categorically denied any incitement from staff members, emphasizing that the fight stemmed from prior disputes among the three inmates, with no signs of drug use evident in any of them.
Furthermore, the administration stated that knives, metal spoons, and heating devices are strictly prohibited inside the living quarters, thus refuting claims concerning the use of a “knife” in the incident.
Regarding the allegations of “drug use” within the facility, the statement deemed these claims mere fabrications lacking any evidence. The administration reiterated that continuous efforts are being made by the staff to prevent the smuggling of prohibited substances into the prison, ensuring the safety of the facility, its employees, and inmates.
The statement concluded by noting that the individual behind the videos has a prior history of serving multiple prison sentences and is known to have a criminal background, as is the inmate he claims to be his adopted son.
Through this clarification, the prison management reaffirms its complete commitment to transparency and the law, while simultaneously denouncing the baseless smear campaigns targeting its institutions and staff.
