Skouri: The Government Increases the Number of Vocational Training Beneficiaries to 100,000 and Doubles Efforts to Support Non-Degree Holders
Follow-up
The Minister of Economic Integration, Small Businesses, Employment, and Skills, Younes Skouri, announced that the government is working to expand the vocational training system to increase the number of beneficiaries from 31,000 to approximately 100,000 by the end of this year.
In response to a question during a parliamentary session regarding the "Expansion and Development of the Vocational Training System to Support Employment," Skouri explained that the government has allocated 500 million dirhams for this program, urging regional leaders to contribute to its funding by providing additional support grants.
The minister emphasized that this system represents a practical solution to combat unemployment, particularly among those without educational certificates. He added that the government has increased the financial support allocated to each beneficiary from 4,000 dirhams to 5,000 dirhams, alongside reducing the training duration to accommodate the social circumstances of the workers involved.
In response to another question concerning the uncredentialed workforce, Skouri noted that this group’s percentage has decreased from around 68% in 2013 to 43% currently; however, it still constitutes a significant portion of the labor market.
To address the situation of this group, the minister underscored the importance of continuous vocational training, which he deemed the optimal solution, highlighting that this type of training has faced challenges for three decades. He pointed out that the government has included the reform of continuous training in the agenda for the social dialogue round planned for April 2024, with a new reform vision to be initiated before the next dialogue session in September.
In conclusion, Skouri emphasized the need to broaden training to include all individuals without certificates who aspire to effectively integrate into the job market.
