The correction of the ruling in the case of the girl Ghaitha’s hit-and-run in Sidi Rahal has been postponed, and the accused remains under arrest.
The criminal court in Berrechid postponed the hearing regarding the young man involved in the case of Ghaitha, who was hit at the Sidi Rahal beach, to July 28 to complete the procedures, especially after a judicial decision to conduct a thorough medical examination of the victim.
The defense for Ghaitha’s family clarified that the court ordered her to be examined by a specialist in neurology before issuing a ruling, while the accused is still in preventive detention after the judicial body rejected the request for temporary release submitted by his defense.
The incident dates back to Sunday, June 15, when the girl, who had come from Italy with her family for summer vacation, was playing on the beach when she was struck by an SUV being driven by a young man in his twenties, who was towing a jet ski.
The accident sparked a wave of anger and sadness among beachgoers, with criticism directed at the lack of safety measures at a beach that is supposed to be safe, especially during the peak summer season.
