Participatory financing in Morocco exceeds 33.8 billion dirhams in 2024
Participatory financing provided by banks and participatory windows in Morocco showed a significant increase in 2024, reaching 33.8 billion dirhams, representing an annual growth of 19.9 percent, according to Bank Al-Maghrib’s annual report on banking supervision.
The report confirmed that these financings constitute 86.9 percent of total financings for the year 2024, compared to 86.4 percent in 2023, reflecting a growing demand for this type of banking product.
These financings were allocated with 78.7 percent for real estate acquisition, 15.4 percent for equipment financing, and 5.9 percent for consumption and treasury, indicating the pivotal role of participatory financing in housing and individual investments.
The financing is distributed between two main formats: “Murabaha” at 99 percent, and “Salam” at only 1 percent. The balance of Murabaha financing reached 33.6 billion dirhams, registering an increase of 5.6 billion dirhams compared to the previous year. In terms of net assets acquired under this format, it amounted to 382.8 million dirhams versus 301.4 million dirhams in 2023.
Regarding “Salam” financing, it reached 254.5 million dirhams during 2024, while the debts owed by customers represent about 87.5 percent of total participatory financings, highlighting the growing importance of this type of product in the national financial market.
