Omar Hajira: Morocco Aims to Boost Exports to Egypt from 400 to 8,000 Cars

Follow-Up

Omar Hajira, the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade within the Ministry of Industry and Trade, revealed that the Moroccan delegation’s visit to Egypt, which included a number of exporters, yielded significant results in enhancing trade exchanges between the two countries, particularly by increasing Moroccan car exports to the Egyptian market.

Hajira confirmed that Moroccan car exports to Egypt surged from 400 to 5,000 units, with expectations of reaching 8,000 cars soon. He stated that this figure reflects the growing dynamism in bilateral economic relations. He explained that the Egyptian side showed complete willingness to receive Moroccan products and committed to prioritizing them whenever the required conditions are met.

The government official emphasized that this development is just the beginning of a broader cooperation trajectory, pointing out the ongoing coordination with Egyptian partners, both through diplomatic channels and trade institutions, in order to achieve further growth in bilateral exchanges.

The two countries agreed at the beginning of March to increase the volume of Moroccan exports to the Egyptian market, especially cars, as part of a partnership based on a “win-win” principle. They also agreed to establish a FAST TRACK system to facilitate the entry of Moroccan products into Egypt.

Both parties recognized the need to establish a direct communication line to monitor obstacles hindering trade exchanges and to work on overcoming them, alongside organizing a B2B business and economic partnership forum in specific sectors during April 2025 in Egypt, to encourage connectivity between private sector economic actors in both countries.

The joint statement issued following a ministerial meeting held in Rabat indicated that both sides agreed to activate the joint business council and prepare for a meeting of the joint trade committee, highlighting the importance of establishing joint investment projects, particularly in the industrial sector.

This meeting was chaired by Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Omar Hajira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, along with Hassan Khateeb, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, as part of efforts to enhance the cooperative and economic partnership between Morocco and Egypt.
