OCP Nutricrops Strengthens Agricultural Cooperation with Bangladesh

OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of Morocco’s Office Chérifien des Phosphates, announced the signing of a strategic agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), the public agency under the Bangladesh Ministry of Agriculture, to supply 1.1 million tons of non-urea fertilizers during the 2025-2026 period.

This announcement came during an official visit from a Bangladeshi delegation that included representatives from the BADC and the Bangladeshi Ministry of Agriculture, who attended the signing ceremony and a tour of the largest fertilizer production facility in the world located in the Jorf Lasfar region of Morocco. They also visited Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, the research and technical partner of the OCP Group.

The visit aimed to solidify the commercial agreement and explore new collaboration opportunities in agricultural research, farmer training, and technology transfer in alignment with Bangladesh’s strategic priorities. This partnership reflects both parties’ commitment to provide suitable fertilizers that promote responsible usage and support a shared vision of building a sustainable agricultural future based on science and innovation.

Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, expressed pride in this renewed partnership, emphasizing that it reflects mutual trust and both parties’ commitment to developing efficient and sustainable agriculture, as well as enhancing long-term collaboration in areas such as research, training, and innovation.

Rahul Amin Khan, Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation, conveyed his deep gratitude to the OCP Group and Morocco for their ongoing support in increasing agricultural productivity in Bangladesh, expressing optimism for further joint collaboration in areas of innovation, logistical support, technology transfer, and training.

The statement noted that this partnership underscores OCP Nutricrops’ commitment to improving soil health, enhancing farmer capacities, and bolstering food security in Bangladesh. Between 2019 and 2023, the organization trained approximately 15,000 farmers, including over 4,400 women, on best agricultural practices to increase production and improve farmers’ living conditions.

This strategic collaboration embodies the importance of strengthening cooperation among developing countries, as OCP Nutricrops focuses on building strong, long-term alliances with partners in the Global South, such as Bangladesh, to promote sustainable local solutions that support food security and contribute to accelerating agricultural transformation and enhancing a shared development agenda in emerging economies.
