Morocco Records Promising Results Three Years After Launching E-Visa
Morocco has achieved encouraging results three years after the introduction of the electronic visa, which has been in effect since July 2022. This initiative was aimed at facilitating visitor access to the country and supporting the recovery of the tourism sector following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Official data revealed that more than 230,000 electronic visas were granted between 2022 and 2025, with an approval rate of 96%. This indicates the effectiveness of a system characterized by ease of use, security, and openness. The system, entirely reliant on a digital platform, allows applicants to submit their requests, track their processing, and receive responses in just three working days.
Citizens from countries such as Israel, India, and Thailand particularly benefited from this measure, in line with the kingdom’s strategy to diversify tourism markets and attract new segments of high-spending visitors.
The General Directorate of National Security, which oversees the system, confirmed that continuous updates are being made on technological and security levels, in coordination with consular services and border control authorities.
The role of the electronic visa extends beyond tourism; it also serves as a tool for digital diplomacy, contributing to the modernization of consular services and strengthening ties with the diaspora and international partners, within a comprehensive vision for digital transformation in the fields of migration and tourism.
Morocco intends to expand its list of eligible countries for the electronic visa in the coming months, aligning with the goals of the National Tourism Plan 2023–2026, which aims to attract over 26 million tourists by 2030.
