Moroccan agriculture is confidently advancing towards strengthening its position on the international stage, particularly in the fruit sector. A recent report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has confirmed that Morocco ranks among the top three countries in Africa in terms of fruit export value, alongside Egypt and South Africa. This achievement reflects the deep structural transformation the sector has undergone over recent decades.

The report highlighted that the rapid growth in Moroccan fruit exports since the beginning of the 21st century is primarily due to improvements in agricultural infrastructure and the development of value chains. This has enabled local producers to access markets with high purchasing power, notably in Western Europe. It also pointed out that products such as citrus fruits and grapes have played a pivotal role in this growth, thanks to production quality and the integration of farming, packaging, and marketing processes.

The report further indicated that Morocco holds a leading position among the main fruit producers on the African continent, alongside countries such as Algeria, Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa. This performance is partly attributed to the kingdom’s strategic geographical location, which allows for quick distribution and meets the growing European demand for Mediterranean and organic fruits.

The report confirmed that the agricultural policies being implemented, particularly the Green Morocco Plan and the Generation Green 2020-2030 Plan, have significantly contributed to enhancing the sector’s competitiveness by improving quality, diversifying markets, supporting small and medium-sized producers, modernizing value chains, and fostering agricultural innovation.

The report predicted that Moroccan agriculture will continue to play a central role in supplying regional and international markets with high-quality fruits from 2025 to 2034. This is especially true as European demand persists and Morocco invests in more sustainable and innovative agricultural practices, reinforcing its position as an emerging agricultural power in the Mediterranean and Africa.
