El Bakkali faced fierce competition from Ryuji Miura, especially in the final meters when the Japanese athlete took the lead. However, El Bakkali’s final sprint proved decisive, allowing the Olympic champion to win the race.
El Bakkali finished with a time of 8:03.18, while his Japanese rival completed the distance in 8:03.43.
