Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate for Budget, confirmed that the projects related to organizing the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 are part of a comprehensive, long-term strategic vision focused on continuity and advance preparation for hosting the World Cup 2030.

The minister explained during a press conference at the National School of Administration that this initiative is not limited to the sports sector but includes a broad development approach aimed at sustainably enhancing economic and territorial infrastructures.

Lekjaa estimated the current investments across various sectors, including infrastructure, at approximately 150 billion dirhams, highlighting that these investments encompass major projects, including a desalination plant with a production capacity of up to 2 billion cubic meters.

He noted that transportation projects are being financed through a public-private partnership model, supported by an annual state contribution of 1.6 billion dirhams until 2030, ensuring sustainable funding without additional pressure on the public budget.

The minister revealed the commencement of works to modernize the railway network, including the development of a high-speed line connecting the southern regions, a step aimed at overcoming logistical challenges and enhancing economic and territorial integration among the cities hosting major events.

Lekjaa assured that the financial partnerships in place utilize innovative mechanisms that allow for cost recovery over a span of twenty years without burdening public finances, reflecting a strategic dimension in resource management.

Regarding sports facilities, the minister announced that the renovations of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat would be completed by the end of July, while the renovations of the Grand Stadium in Tangier are expected to be finished by mid-August, in line with the timeline set for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, confirming that these works are part of preparations for future major championships.
