King Mohammed VI: The Outstretched Hand to Algeria Remains Steadfast and International Support for Autonomy Expands
King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering position regarding relations with Algeria, stating that the hand remains extended to the Algerian brothers, rooted in a deep belief in the unity of the region’s peoples and their ability to transcend differences. He emphasized that the Moroccan and Algerian peoples share deep historical and humanitarian ties that call for open and responsible dialogue.
The King expressed Morocco’s readiness to turn a new page with Algeria, moving away from escalation, and called for building relationships based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and fruitful cooperation. He affirmed that the future of the Maghreb region cannot be achieved without joint engagement from Morocco and Algeria alongside the other countries.
In this context, the King expressed his increasing pride in the international support for the autonomy initiative in the Moroccan Sahara, praising the positions of the United Kingdom and Portugal, which joined several other countries in supporting this serious and credible proposal, within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
These statements come in a sensitive regional context, reflecting the King’s clear desire to move beyond the political stagnation in the Maghreb and push towards a new regional vision based on cooperation and integration, rather than tension and division.
