Electric vehicles account for 15% of new car sales in the European Union
The electric vehicle market in the European Union has seen significant growth during the first half of 2025, with this segment surpassing a 15% market share of total new car sales.
Approximately 869,271 electric vehicles were sold in EU countries, representing an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, raising its market share from 12.5% to 15.6%.
In total, around 5.58 million new cars were sold in the European market between January and June 2025, with hybrid vehicles capturing the largest share at 34.8%, followed by gasoline vehicles at over 28%. The share of plug-in hybrid vehicles stood at 8.4%, while diesel car sales dropped to about 10%.
In contrast, the share of electric vehicles in Morocco remains very limited, not exceeding 3% of the new car market, despite the rapid growth that this sector is experiencing. The Moroccan market is expected to see growth exceeding 100% during the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a gradual shift towards greater reliance on clean cars and sustainable energy, although it remains below the growth levels recorded in Europe.
