Demographic Change Affects the Balance of Public Policies

The High Commissioner for Planning, Chakib Benmoussa, warned during a meeting organized by the High Commission for Planning yesterday in Rabat about the anticipated decline in younger age groups, particularly children.

Benmoussa stressed the need for immediate action regarding this demographic change due to its impact on public policies, especially in vital sectors like health, education, housing, and transportation.

He called for a proactive approach to address the demographic shifts occurring in the country and emphasized the necessity of having accurate data and statistics to guide public policies.

The official highlighted a significant decline in the fertility rate from 5.5 children in 1982 to 2.2 children by 2025, attributing this change to various social and economic factors.

In conclusion, Benmoussa stated that the decrease in the number of children in younger age categories requires a reevaluation of the current model, citing the example of Moroccan schools in rural areas that are suffering from a lack of students.
