Core Inflation Rises by 0.2% in June Amidst Increasing Food Prices
The consumer price index recorded an increase of 0.4% in June 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to the High Commission for Planning.
The Commission indicated in its news release that this increase is attributed to a rise in food prices by 0.8% and non-food items by 0.1%. It noted that the percentage changes for non-food items varied, with a decrease of 3.4% in the transport sector and an increase of 3.8% in restaurants and hotels.
Compared to May of this year, the index also showed a similar increase of 0.4% due to an increase in food prices by 0.8% and non-food items by 0.1%.
Meat prices rose by 4%, seafood by 3.9%, coffee, tea, and cocoa by 1.8%, fruits by 1.3%, and dairy products, cheese, and eggs by 0.2%. Conversely, prices for oils and fats decreased by 1.6%, vegetables by 0.6%, and bread and cereals by 0.4%. Fuel prices recorded a slight increase of 0.3%.
The index noted the largest increases in Laayoune and Beni Mellal by 1%, followed by Guelmim by 0.9%, and Oujda by 0.8%. This was followed by Meknes with 0.7%, Tangier with 0.5%, and Casablanca with 0.4%. Meanwhile, the increase was 0.3% in Rabat, Tetouan, Dakhla, Settat, and Errachidia, and 0.2% in Marrakech. The index fell by 0.1% in both Kenitra and Safi.
The core inflation index, which excludes items with regulated prices and those with sharp fluctuations, increased by 0.2% compared to May 2025 and rose by 1.1% annually compared to June 2024.
