Casablanca launches a project to rehabilitate the Oulad Ziane station with a budget of approximately 80 million dirhams.
The Casablanca municipality, through the local development company “Casablanca Transport,” has launched a strategic project aimed at rehabilitating the Oulad Ziane station as part of a comprehensive vision to improve urban transportation services and enhance the infrastructure appeal of the economic capital. This project has an allocated budget of around 80 million dirhams, under a multi-party partnership.
This initiative comes in response to the increasing pressure on the public transport system and aims to address persistent structural issues that have affected the travel experience within one of the largest bus stations in the country.
The project, which will span ten months, focuses on rehabilitating the main building of the station, renewing its internal facilities, improving bus routes, and providing safe and comfortable waiting areas for passengers. The works will also enhance public lighting, modernize sidewalks and walkways, and install smart signage to help track bus movements.
Karim El Klaybi, head of the Social Affairs and Family Committee at the Casablanca Administrative Council and a member of the city council, confirmed that this project is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at modernizing road transport infrastructure, explaining that the refurbishment also includes sewage networks, movement and waiting facilities, and service areas.
The project also involves equipping the station with an information system to manage bus movements and record their data, in addition to establishing a unified counter to facilitate procedures and providing electronic ticketing kiosks, which will enhance service efficiency and reduce waiting times.
Components of the project also include landscaping, tree planting, constructing new walls, and installing modern metal structures to cover waiting areas, alongside updating the technical networks related to electricity, water, and communications.
The cost of rehabilitating the station building is estimated at around 44 million dirhams, while the cost of external improvements is about 17 million dirhams, with the remaining budget allocated for equipment and management.
The project is being implemented under a partnership agreement between the Casablanca municipality, the administrative council, the Local Government Directorate, and the station management, ensuring collaborative efforts to realize this vital initiative.
In parallel, the Casablanca municipal council discussed the establishment of two new bus stations to alleviate the burden on the Oulad Ziane station and modernize the transportation system between the city and other regions of the country. These projects are part of a vision aimed at aligning with rapid demographic and urban growth while enhancing quality of life and mobility in the economic capital.
Thus, Casablanca lays a new cornerstone in the modernization of its infrastructure, in line with its development as a strategic economic hub at the national level.
