Israeli Prosecutors Charge an Individual of Iranian Descent with Spying for Tehran During “Rising Lion” War
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Israeli prosecutor’s office charged an Israeli citizen of Iranian descent with espionage for Iranian intelligence during the recent conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran.
According to Ynet, an indictment was submitted against the accused at the Central Court in Lod, including charges of “contacting a foreign agent” and “leaking military information with the intent to harm state security.”
Investigations revealed that the accused, who immigrated from Iran to Israel in 1999, maintained a long-term relationship with an Iranian woman and engaged in secret communications with elements of the Iranian regime.
In 2024, the accused met in Turkey with his partner and two Iranian intelligence officials, continuing to communicate with them via the Telegram app, providing them with sensitive information, including:
– Details about Israeli drone flights towards Iran
– Locations of Israeli army bases
– The identity of an Iranian sailor working on an oil tanker, suspected of contacting Israelis
The indictment indicated that these activities occurred during Operation “Rising Lion,” which Israel launched against Iran on June 13, as part of an unprecedented escalation lasting 12 days.
Israeli authorities view this case as new evidence of increasing Iranian intelligence activity targeting Israel through dual-national citizens or those with previous connections to Iran.
