Akhunouch: Morocco Bets on Ethical and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence to Achieve Digital Sovereignty
The Head of Government, Aziz Akhunouch, emphasized that addressing the challenges of artificial intelligence requires collective thinking and shared coordination. He underscored the necessity of investing in talent, research, and training as fundamental pillars for building sustainable and ethical artificial intelligence.
In a video message during the opening of the first national forum on artificial intelligence, which began today in Salé, Akhunouch stressed the importance of establishing clear rules to ensure the safe and responsible use of this technology by protecting personal data and preventing any harmful or unethical applications.
He pointed out that achieving this goal necessitates the establishment of participatory governance that includes governments, the private sector, universities, and civil society. He called for updating the educational system and encouraging initiatives that prepare youth for future employment opportunities.
Akhunouch considered the national strategy “Digital Morocco 2030” to reflect the Kingdom’s aim towards digital modernity, clarifying that the government has allocated a budget of nearly 11 billion dirhams for it, with the goal of revitalizing the digital economy, creating new job opportunities, and supporting national competencies.
He explained that this strategy aims to train 100,000 young men and women in the digital field and create 240,000 job opportunities by 2030.
The Prime Minister concluded that the national forum on artificial intelligence represents a pivotal milestone in reinforcing Morocco’s technological sovereignty, calling for a collective mobilization to build a responsible, inclusive, and development-oriented artificial intelligence model.
