Aziz Akhannouch, the Prime Minister, confirmed that the expansion of the Stellantis factory in Kenitra will double its production capacity, with the local integration rate increasing to 75% by 2030.

During the inauguration ceremony of the expansion, Akhannouch discussed a substantial investment of €1.2 billion, of which €702 million will be allocated to suppliers. This investment positions Morocco as a continental leader in the automotive industry, with a total production capacity potentially reaching one million vehicles annually by 2030.

The project supports Morocco’s shift towards sustainable mobility and electric vehicle manufacturing, enhancing its presence in innovative supply chains. It is also expected to create 3,100 direct jobs for the region’s youth, in line with the government’s employment roadmap.

Akhannouch emphasized that the expansion aligns with the goals of the new investment charter and the industrial policies led by King Mohammed VI. He noted that this project increases the productivity of the national industry and stimulates local integration while developing a structured and competitive economic fabric.

The project also includes an engine production line, reinforcing Morocco’s position in the global value chains of electric vehicles, especially with the anticipated rise in production of electric vehicles and charging stations.

Akhannouch regarded the expansion as a new step in a model and long-term partnership with Stellantis, which began in June 2015 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, yielding the inauguration of the Kenitra factory in 2019.

The industrial ecosystem that has developed around this factory since then has been described by the Prime Minister as effective, integrated, and innovation-oriented, cementing Morocco’s role as a strategic industrial hub in automotive manufacturing.
