The Russian Ambassador to Morocco, Vladimir Baibakov, confirmed that Rabat and Moscow are ready to develop their bilateral partnership by introducing new initiatives during his speech at the “Russia Day” celebration.

Baibakov noted that Morocco remains Russia’s main trading partner in Africa and is among the top five countries importing Russian wheat, with purchases exceeding one million tons annually.

The Russian ambassador added, “We closely follow the development of relations between Russia and Morocco, which are based on a strong strategic partnership, reinforced by a personal agreement between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.”

He also highlighted the significant untapped potential in bilateral relations, explaining that Russian companies are interested in investment projects in Morocco, particularly in agriculture, water management, industry (including oil refining), nuclear energy, and construction.

He continued: “Russia has extensive experience in these fields and can provide support to Morocco in implementing major projects as part of green development plans, as well as cooperation across the Atlantic, in addition to advanced technology and digital transformation sectors.”

On another note, Baibakov mentioned the success achieved in bilateral cooperation in the fishing sector, with expectations for a new long-term agreement to be signed soon.

The Russian ambassador also highlighted the progress in cultural, scientific, and tourism relations, noting that direct flights between Moscow and Casablanca are in high demand. He added that the number of Moroccan students in Russia continues to increase, with Moscow offering 100 government scholarships annually to Moroccan students in the most sought-after fields in the Kingdom.
