The government majority reaffirms its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and praises the government’s performance on social and economic issues.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, the presidency of the government majority held its periodic meeting in Rabat, chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, president of the National Rally of Independents, with the participation of leaders from the Authenticity and Modernity Party and the Istiqlal Party, to discuss recent developments in national and international arenas.

The majority stressed its support for the diplomatic gains achieved by the Kingdom concerning the Sahara issue, commending the recent stance of the United Kingdom supporting the initiative for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty. This development is considered an important shift reflecting the expanding coalition of major countries engaged in supporting the Moroccan position, alongside the United States and France.

On the international front, the majority condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza, deeming them a violation of the ceasefire that undermines the chances for peace. They reiterated Morocco’s steadfast position, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Socially, the majority positively acknowledged the achievements under the implementation of the social state initiative, particularly in health coverage, direct support, housing, and reforms in education and health. They considered these measures as reflecting the government’s commitment to its program and enhancing social justice and territorial equity.

They also highlighted the noticeable improvement in national economic indicators, recording a growth rate of 4.2% during the first quarter of the current year and the creation of 282,000 new jobs within a year, which they viewed as evidence of the effectiveness of governmental measures to revive the economy and stimulate employment.

The majority welcomed the government’s swift response to the royal directives regarding the restructuring of the national herd through a support program for livestock breeders, which includes debt scheduling, forage support, the numbering of female livestock, treatment campaigns, and ongoing technical support.

They expressed satisfaction with the progress on strategic files related to water security, energy transition, and digital transformation, and praised the collaborative legislative work between the government and parliament, calling for continued legislative reforms linked to the government program.

The presidency of the majority concluded its meeting by affirming the cohesion of its components and the harmony of its positions, considering this a fundamental element in enhancing the effectiveness of government work. They also acknowledged the role of the opposition in strengthening democratic discourse and exercising constructive oversight within institutions.
