The Economic, Social, and Environmental Council has revealed that the job market in Morocco is experiencing radical transformations due to the digital revolution and advancements in artificial intelligence. This has led to the emergence of new, non-traditional employment patterns that are establishing themselves as a professional reality, yet they continue to raise profound questions regarding the social and economic rights of workers.

In an opinion document titled “Non-Traditional Employment Forms and Professional Relations: New Challenges and Emerging Opportunities,” the council pointed out that remote work, digital platform work, and part-time jobs have become rising employment styles that have gained considerable momentum following the COVID-19 crisis, resulting in significant changes in labor relations and production methods.

The council emphasized that these forms of work have opened avenues for new professional activities such as delivery services, smart transportation, software development, translation, consulting, and design, with the emergence of professional models based on performing partial tasks for multiple employers or balancing work with personal commitments like studying or family care.

It highlighted that non-traditional employment offers significant flexibility for businesses in managing their human resources and costs while providing workers with better opportunities to coordinate their professional and personal lives. It reduces pressure on infrastructure and urban commuting, encouraging innovation, especially among women, seniors, and people with disabilities.

However, the council warned of the risks associated with this form of employment, primarily the lack of legal framework, absence of social protection, and economic vulnerability that may affect workers involved. Additionally, there are issues related to weak union representation, difficulties in separating professional and personal lives, and threats to the privacy of digital data.

The council criticized the slow response of the legal and institutional framework to these transformations, calling for the development of a new legal and regulatory framework that ensures workers’ rights while maintaining the flexibility of these employment forms. This includes providing innovative contract solutions and effective mechanisms to expand social protection and guarantee decent working conditions.
