Artist Mounir Makram, a member of the Egyptian Actors’ Syndicate, announced the passing of the renowned Egyptian artist, “The Lady of Arab Theater,” Samiha Ayoub, at the age of 93.

Makram wrote on his Facebook page today: “The esteemed artist Samiha Ayoub is in the mercy of God.”

Ayoub’s death comes after a long and prolific artistic career that began in 1947, during which she left a significant mark in theater, cinema, and television, enriching the cultural scene in Egypt and the Arab world.

Throughout her artistic journey, Samiha Ayoub transitioned between the stage, cinema, and television, collaborating with many prominent directors and writers in Egypt and the Arab world.

The late artist participated in numerous works of a social and tragic nature, shining in her roles in renowned theatrical performances that remain etched in cultural memory, as well as contributing to television dramas and films. She was distinguished by her powerful voice and striking stage presence, making her one of the most prominent figures in dramatic performance since the mid-20th century.

In addition to her acting career, Samiha Ayoub held administrative positions in cultural institutions, and she had a constant presence at artistic and theatrical events both inside and outside Egypt. She received several awards and honors from official institutions and cultural bodies, both Arab and international, in recognition of her long contributions and diverse artistic history.

According to Egyptian media outlets, the Actors’ Syndicate mourned the great artist Samiha Ayoub in an official statement, expressing “deep sorrow for the passing of the great artist Samiha Ayoub, who passed away today after a rich artistic journey that left lasting works in Egyptian theater, cinema, and television.”

The statement read: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return. We mourn with great sorrow the esteemed artist Samiha Ayoub and ask God to envelop her in His vast mercy and to grant her family patience and solace.”

It continued: “The late artist was a symbol of Egyptian art and was dubbed ‘The Lady of Arab Theater,’ and throughout her career, she presented works that marked turning points in the history of theatrical and television performance. She also held influential leadership positions in the cultural movement.”
