The Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, a subsidiary of the Arab League, along with the UNESCO regional office for Egypt and Sudan, recently launched the platform “Arab Women in Science” in Cairo.

According to a statement from the Academy, the platform aims to support Arab women in various scientific fields by providing an interactive environment that enhances professional communication, scientific guidance, and the exchange of experiences, thereby opening new avenues for professional growth and supporting women’s contributions to the development of the research system in the Arab world.

The “Arab Women in Science” platform also seeks to address the challenges faced by women in their scientific careers by offering mentorship and training programs, grants and career opportunities, capacity-building resources, as well as a community knowledge bank and an ambassador program.

This digital platform, the first of its kind in the region, was designed with active participation from Arab women working in scientific fields, aiming to enhance their presence and contributions across various scientific disciplines, particularly in social and human sciences, which suffer from low female representation.

According to the statement, the UNESCO regional office and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport hope that the launch of this platform will serve as an opportunity to expand its reach across all Arab countries, forming a supportive regional network that empowers women to lead and actively participate in the future of scientific research and sustainable development.
