Settat.. Calls for the establishment of public swimming pools to reduce drowning incidents during the summer
With the onset of each summer, the residents of Settat suffer anew due to the lack of public swimming pools and recreational spaces aimed at children and youth, particularly in low-income neighborhoods and densely populated areas. This chronic shortage forces many families to turn to rivers and reservoirs as unsafe and haphazard alternatives, resulting in tragic drowning incidents recorded each season.
In an effort to draw attention to this situation, Member of Parliament Mohamed Ghiath sent a letter to the Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sport, urging for urgent intervention to address this shortfall and create alternative spaces that meet the needs of the community, contributing to the development of children and youth during the summer vacation.
The same MP called for support for projects to establish and rehabilitate public swimming pools in Settat, which would be accessible to various social strata, in addition to programming educational and recreational summer activities in partnership with local authorities and educational institutions, aimed at directing the energies of youth towards safe and beneficial areas.
Ghiath also called for the inclusion of Settat in national programs dedicated to promoting water sports, believing that access to recreational and sports facilities is a fundamental right that should be guaranteed for all citizens, not a privilege confined to major cities.
The MP indicated that the absence of such facilities not only affects the quality of life but also threatens the physical safety of residents, especially children, urging the government to respond positively to this issue to avoid repeating tragedies that claim lives every summer.
The residents of Settat are awaiting tangible responses to these demands, reflecting a collective urgent need, amid calls to invest in recreational infrastructure as a lever for social development and a fundamental axis for enhancing community safety.
