Royal Air Maroc Launches Historic Expansion Plan to Increase Fleet to 200 Aircraft
Abdel Samad Kiyoh, Minister of Transport and Logistics, announced that Royal Air Maroc is in the process of implementing an unprecedented expansion plan, which includes acquiring ten aircraft this year. Three of these aircraft were received in the past two days, in addition to two Boeing 787 Dreamliners purchased earlier in the year, each with a capacity of 302 seats.
During a meeting of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, Environment, and Sustainable Development Committee at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 3, the minister revealed that the company will soon launch a request for proposals to acquire an additional 188 aircraft. This is part of an ambitious program agreement signed with the state for the period from 2023 to 2037, aiming to quadruple the company’s fleet from 50 aircraft currently to 200 aircraft by 2037, thus keeping pace with the growing demand for air transport.
Kiyoh explained that this expansion will accompany a significant increase in passenger numbers, with the company aiming to transport 31 million passengers annually by 2037, up from 6 million currently. Additionally, Royal Air Maroc’s revenue is expected to jump from 15.5 billion dirhams to 100 billion dirhams over the same period.
The minister also indicated that Royal Air Maroc will work to expand its global network from 99 destinations in 2023 to 130 destinations in the coming years, reinforcing its position as a leading global airline connecting Morocco with various continents.
