Record Growth of Moroccan Agricultural Exports to Spain
Moroccan agricultural and food exports to the Spanish market have shown remarkable growth during the first quarter of 2025, reflecting the strong dynamism characterizing the national agricultural sector amidst rapid global changes in supply and food chains.
A report from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business revealed that Spain’s imports of Moroccan agricultural and food products increased by nearly 20% compared to the same period in 2024. The value of these imports reached 808 million euros between January and March 2025, compared to 689 million euros the previous year, marking an increase of 119 million euros.
Imported quantities also saw a rise of 16%, totaling 242,736 tons, while Spanish agricultural organizations confirmed that fruits and vegetables constituted about 80.8% of these imports, equivalent to 196,295 tons, reflecting a strong annual growth of 23%. This highlights the appeal of Moroccan products in terms of quality and variety in the European market.
In contrast, Spanish imports of Moroccan seafood experienced a slight decline, with imported quantities dropping to 30,219 tons from 31,984 tons during the first quarter of 2024. Despite this decrease, Moroccan fish and seafood maintain a significant position within Spain’s food import basket.
This successful commercial performance underscores the increasing strategic importance of the Moroccan agricultural sector in supporting the bilateral trade balance, as well as solidifying the Kingdom’s role as a reliable food supplier to Europe amid current global fluctuations.
