Paris Saint-Germain Thrashes Atletico Madrid with a Four-Goal Haul in Club World Cup Opener

Paris Saint-Germain began their first appearance in the Club World Cup with a commanding 4-0 victory over Spanish side Atletico Madrid in Monday’s opening match of Group B. The European champions demonstrated their readiness to advance far in the tournament, completely dominating the encounter from start to finish.

The Parisian team entered the match buoyed by high spirits after an exceptional season that saw them clinch four titles, most notably the Champions League with a resounding win over Inter Milan. This momentum was evident in their performance on the pitch, as Spanish international Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by Portuguese player Vitinha netting the second before the end of the first half.

Despite Atletico Madrid’s attempts, led by coach Diego Simeone and featuring a strong lineup that included Griezmann, Alvarez, Giuliano, and De Paul, they failed to penetrate PSG’s disciplined tactics and high pressing. The Spanish defense crumbled in the closing minutes, with Sini Mayolo scoring the third in the 87th minute, before the South Korean forward added a fourth from the penalty spot in the dying moments.

With this victory, PSG sits atop Group B with three points and a goal difference of four, while Atletico must quickly regroup for their upcoming match against American side Seattle Sounders to avoid an early exit.

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s team is preparing for a tough challenge against Brazilian club Botafogo in the second round, marking another test for the squad seeking their first-ever world title.
