Morocco Participates in Geneva at the Disaster Risk Reduction Platform
Morocco is participating in the eighth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025), which continues its activities until June 6 in Geneva, under the theme “Every Day Counts, Work to Achieve Resilience Today.”
This multilateral global forum, organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Swiss government, aims to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, which seeks to minimize disaster risks and enhance community resilience.
The GP2025 platform adopts a comprehensive approach that considers the community as a whole, providing a high-level opportunity for interaction, strategy formulation, and discussions with international experts, decision-makers, government representatives, stakeholders, and members of the disaster risk reduction community.
This results-oriented platform will evaluate the progress made in implementing the recommendations presented in the political declaration adopted during the high-level meeting held by the United Nations General Assembly in May 2023.
The theme of the GP2025 Platform highlights the urgent need for collective action to expedite the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, adopted during the Third United Nations World Conference held in Sendai, Japan, in March 2015, with a particular focus on the importance of establishing early warning systems.
The 2025 session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is an inclusive, multilateral forum held in a hybrid format. Preparatory days for this gathering took place on June 2 and 3, allowing relevant stakeholder groups and partners to organize preparatory events and consultations before the official program, which runs from June 4 to 6.
The conference agenda includes a series of sessions and activities, including high-level dialogues, ministerial roundtables, thematic sessions, multi-stakeholder plenaries, and special sessions, as well as parallel events, an innovation platform, an “Ignite” platform, learning labs, and field visits.
Morocco is represented at this event by a multi-stakeholder delegation led by Abdallah Nasif, the Director of Natural Risk Management at the Ministry of Interior, and includes representatives from various sectors and relevant institutions.
Morocco’s participation in this global platform reflects the Kingdom’s significant commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to strengthening resilience and managing disaster risks. It also showcases the nation’s ongoing dedication to international cooperation and the exchange of experiences in this field.
