Moroccan peppers dominate the Spanish market with a historic record

Morocco’s pepper exports to Spain reached an unprecedented figure of 101.11 million kilograms in 2024, accounting for 92.36% of Spain’s total pepper imports, solidifying Morocco’s position as the leading supplier of this vital agricultural product.

Morocco achieved significant growth of 199.9% compared to 2015, when exports were limited to just 33.71 million kilograms, according to a recent report from Hortoinfo based on official data from the Spanish tax agency.

The total value of Moroccan pepper exports to the Spanish market was approximately 1.32 billion dirhams, equivalent to 121.46 million euros, with an average price of around 13.1 dirhams per kilogram, reflecting the competitive strength of this product in the European market.

Spain’s pepper imports from various countries increased by 190.9% over the past decade, rising from 37.64 million kilograms in 2015 to 109.47 million kilograms in 2024. Nevertheless, Morocco remained the primary supplier, providing over 92% of these quantities.

The overall financial value of pepper imported from various countries amounted to around 18.17 billion dirhams, equivalent to 1.665 billion euros, with an increase in the average price per kilogram from 1.25 euros in 2015 to 1.97 euros in 2024, underscoring the growing importance of Moroccan peppers in the international market.
