Kawtar Jalal Releases “Living Blog”: Real Stories Challenging Moroccan Family Law
The lawyer and author Kawtar Jalal has launched a new work titled “Living Blog,” which highlights the legal and social gaps in the Moroccan family code through 13 real stories inspired by the daily lives of citizens living on the margins of legal texts.
The book, situated at the intersection of law, literary narration, and advocacy for reform, combines rigorous legal analysis with deep humanitarian insights. It raises essential questions about the effectiveness of the current code in protecting individual rights, particularly concerning women and children.
In a statement, the author emphasized that “the law cannot be just if it remains deaf to life,” noting that this work is the result of years spent closely engaging with cases stuck in the courts or in the silence of households.
Among the stories addressed in the book are:
– A woman diagnosed with a rare syndrome after marriage, facing symbolic violence from medical and judicial institutions.
– A mother fighting to give her son, born out of wedlock, a name and identity.
– A widow stripped of custody of her children after her husband’s death.
– An interfaith marriage that the state does not recognize.
– An adopted child living without legal lineage or inheritance rights.
“Living Blog” is an attempt to bridge the gap between law and reality, opening a broad discussion on possible reforms, free from rigid technical language, and grounded in real suffering.
