Gambia’s Foreign Minister Delivers Message to the King and Reaffirms His Country’s Support for Moroccan Sovereignty Over Western Sahara
Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, received Mamadou Tangara, Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, on Tuesday in Rabat. Tangara conveyed a written message from Gambian President Adama Barrow to King Mohammed VI.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Tangara emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination between Morocco and Gambia, particularly within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which Gambia currently chairs.
The Gambian official expressed appreciation for King Mohammed VI’s efforts, in his capacity as Chair of the Al-Quds Committee, in enhancing bilateral cooperation and defending common interests.
Tangara praised what he described as Morocco’s diplomatic progress, noting the United Kingdom’s announcement of its support for the autonomy initiative in Moroccan Sahara as a serious and realistic solution to the conflict.
The Gambian Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s firm stance, expressing Gambia’s “explicit support” for Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
