The Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, announced the adoption of satellites and drones for monitoring construction in both urban and rural areas, as part of the authorities’ efforts to combat unauthorized building. This came in response to a written question from MP Soukaina Lahmouch regarding the implications of residents in the rural areas of Khémisset being ordered to demolish their homes.
Laftit emphasized that local authorities are dedicated to activating committees to monitor construction operations in accordance with existing urban planning laws and procedures, noting that this monitoring relies on satellite images and drones to identify new buildings and subject them to inspection.
He explained that recent monitoring operations in the commune of Kansera revealed 20 new buildings, of which 6 were authorized and 14 lacked permits, adding that the authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the offenders.
In a different context, the Minister addressed a parliamentary question regarding the spread of crime in neighborhoods and public spaces, highlighting that combating crime is a priority for the ministry, which is mobilizing all available resources to enhance the feeling of security.
Laftit pointed out that security measures include a strengthened police presence on the streets, deployment of foot and mounted police units, conducting operations targeting wanted individuals, and promptly responding to information shared on social media under the supervision of the public prosecutor.
He also mentioned supporting decentralized judicial police units with intervention teams from the national judicial police, along with organizing awareness campaigns in schools and collaborating with civil society organizations.
Regarding cybercrime, the minister referred to the activation of the electronic platform “Iblagh” for receiving complaints and tips about cyber offenses, including threats against individuals and their families.
Laftit stressed that a purely security-focused approach is insufficient for addressing criminal phenomena, calling for the concerted efforts of all stakeholders within a participatory and integrated framework to achieve effective and sustainable results.
