A U.S. judge has temporarily halted the ban imposed by President Donald Trump on the enrollment of new foreign students at Harvard University in the United States.
Trump’s decision, made on Wednesday, represents the latest attempt by the president to reduce the number of students attending the oldest and wealthiest university in America by a quarter.
Just hours prior, Harvard had filed a legal challenge seeking to block Trump’s decision, describing it as an unlawful retaliatory measure against the university for not complying with the White House’s demands.
In a revised lawsuit submitted on Thursday, Harvard stated that the U.S. president is attempting to circumvent a previous court order.
