Inauguration of the Inezgane Film Festival

The first edition of the Inezgane Film Festival kicked off yesterday evening, organized by the Souss Arts Association for Culture and Creativity.

During the opening ceremony of this cultural event, several artists were honored, including Sandia Tajeddin, Abdellah Dida, Abdelaziz Ousayh, and Ahmed Netama, in recognition of their rich artistic careers and contributions to the national artistic scene.

The evening also featured performances of traditional Amazigh folk music, alongside a screening of a short film.

In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press, the festival’s artistic director, Younes Bezioui, expressed that the festival aims to provide a space for promoting Amazigh cinematic creativity while opening up to national and global cinema. He added that this event also seeks to enhance the local cinematic landscape and make Inezgane, a cradle of Amazigh art and culture which has produced many renowned artistic figures, a refuge for Amazigh creativity.

He emphasized that the Inezgane Film Festival primarily aims to refine the skills and talents of local youth in areas such as acting, directing, screenplay writing, and audiovisual techniques, noting that despite being a new event, it has seen substantial attendance from both professionals and the public.

The festival’s three-day program includes a variety of activities, featuring screenings of local and international films, open meetings with creators and industry professionals, intellectual seminars discussing cinematic art issues, and training workshops for youth and art enthusiasts aimed at honing skills in acting, directing, screenplay writing, and audiovisual techniques.

The festival will also host several prominent figures in the film industry, including directors, producers, screenwriters, and actors, alongside cinema critics and media representatives from local, national, and international platforms, as well as representatives from political and civil organizations.

It is worth mentioning that this event is organized under the supervision of the Inezgane Ait Melloul administration, in coordination with the Inezgane municipality, with participation from the Souss-Massa region and the Inezgane Ait Melloul regional council, as well as contributions from various local economic actors within a partnership framework aimed at stimulating cultural and artistic activity in the region.
