69th Anniversary of National Security: Renewing Commitment to Protecting the Nation and Citizens, and Strengthening the Sense of Security

The National Security family will celebrate the 69th anniversary of its establishment tomorrow, Friday, May 16, marking an annual occasion that reinforces the institution’s steadfast commitment to serving the nation and its citizens, enhancing the sense of security, and entrenching the concept of community policing and good governance.

This anniversary serves as an opportunity to showcase the achievements and ongoing updates, including the development of infrastructure, an increase in logistical and technical readiness, and the enhancement of investment in human resources, particularly through increased engagement with women’s competencies and enabling them to assume positions of security responsibility.

The General Directorate of National Security has implemented proactive plans to combat crime, modernized police scientific and technical laboratories, and expanded the deployment of specialized field units, all while ensuring an improvement in services directed towards citizens through a digital transformation initiative, culminating in the launch of the “E-Police” portal to provide administrative police services within a secure and interactive digital space.

In 2024, the institution succeeded in generalizing the new electronic national identification card through the deployment of 80 mobile units that reached remote areas, benefiting more than 130,000 individuals as part of its philosophy of bringing administration closer to citizens. Additionally, the Directorate reinforced security structures by establishing 19 new units, in line with urban expansion and the requirements of community policing.

The latest phase has seen the enhancement of anti-gang units, now totaling 26 nationwide, equipped with non-lethal weapons and advanced logistical equipment, including four-wheel-drive vehicles, motorcycles, and trained dogs, to provide effective and rapid interventions in various security contexts.

The institution has also elevated the security cells dedicated to sports events to provincial teams for sports security in preparation for the kingdom’s hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, establishing a specialized provincial department in Casablanca and equipping teams with appropriate human and logistical resources to secure major events professionally.

The General Directorate continues to implement its extended security strategy from 2022 to 2026, focusing on strengthening criminal investigation and technical intelligence frameworks, reinforcing human rights dimensions in security practices, and maintaining ongoing coordination with national territorial monitoring services to confront complex criminal challenges.

The Directorate has intensified its efforts to combat cybercrime through the launch of the interactive platform “Iblagh” in June 2024, allowing citizens to report cyber threats and terrorist risks. Institutional partnerships have also been signed to enhance investigative techniques in line with human rights principles.

Morocco’s security efforts received international recognition with the election of a National Security representative as Deputy President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for Africa during the 92nd General Assembly of the organization held in Glasgow, acknowledging the professionalism and efficiency of the agency in combating organized crime.

Last year, the security institution also extended social and health assistance through the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Action for National Security Employees, providing financial and in-kind grants to those injured in the line of duty, along with special support for widows and retirees with limited income, reflecting the humanitarian aspect of the security institution.

The 69th anniversary of the National Security establishment solidified the institution’s place in the hearts of Moroccans as a fundamental pillar for protecting the nation and ensuring stability, showcasing its operational efficiency and adaptability to national and international security transformations, making it a trusted partner both domestically and internationally.
