Taxi drivers celebrate Labor Day and demand the implementation of the provincial decree and protection of the right to strike.
In Kénitra, small taxi drivers organized a protest on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in front of the headquarters of the Moroccan Labor Union, with the participation of professionals and drivers from various neighborhoods.
The protest raised clear demands, foremost among them the right to strike without professionals facing penalties or harassment, and the activation of the provincial decree related to sector regulation and the protection of professional drivers’ rights.
The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with what they described as the “ongoing marginalization” of this vital sector, affirming that small taxi drivers remain excluded from reform considerations despite their role in ensuring daily transportation for thousands of citizens.
They also emphasized the necessity of upholding the law and implementing the provincial decree governing relations between drivers and permit holders, as well as curbing the chaos and extortion faced by workers in the sector.
Participants stressed that their movement is not isolated from the national context but is part of the broader struggle for social justice and professional dignity, urging local authorities and responsible entities to engage in a serious and comprehensive dialogue to address their conditions and improve their working environments.
