The support directed towards basic commodities has exceeded 100 billion dirhams.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fatth, confirmed that the support for basic commodities surpassed 100 billion dirhams during the period from 2022 to 2025. She noted that this effort is part of the government’s policy aimed at protecting Moroccan consumers in light of economic and social crises.
During a session of oral questions at the Council of Advisors, the Minister explained that the government has implemented a series of measures to control prices and enhance market oversight, encompassing around 350,000 points of sale in recent years. This has resulted in over 15,000 violations, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to ensuring compliance with pricing and quality standards.
Nadia Fatth added that the government continued to support citizens’ purchasing power through various mechanisms, including the activation of special programs to combat drought, maintaining stable water and electricity prices, as well as reducing the value-added tax on basic commodities.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of stimulating supply chains through targeted support, alongside the cost of social dialogue, which has led to practical measures such as raising the minimum wage, contributing to alleviating the impact of difficult circumstances on citizens.
Nadia Fatth emphasized the government’s commitment to continuing reforms and achieving social and economic balance, asserting that the sustainability of interventions requires ongoing adaptation to changes and challenges, with a view to maintaining stability and enhancing social justice.
