Football Violence in Casablanca: 17 Arrested Including Minors, Security Personnel Injured

Security interventions carried out by Casablanca’s police on the evening of Saturday, May 3, coinciding with the match between Wydad Casablanca and the Royal Army, led to the arrest of 17 individuals, including 5 minors, on suspicion of involvement in acts of violence and sporting misconduct.

Initial investigations indicate that the arrested individuals caused damage to public property and engaged in violence against law enforcement officers while performing their duties, resulting in injuries among the security forces.

The security operations began before the match and continued until the dispersal of the crowds. They resulted in the apprehension of those involved under the influence of substances, possession of drugs, and white weapons, along with fireworks and flares. Stone-throwing incidents were also reported around the stadium.

Additionally, the preemptive actions enabled authorities to detain 708 unaccompanied minors near the stadium, who were later handed over to their guardians after legal procedures were followed.

The suspected adults have been placed under police custody, while the minors are being monitored, pending the completion of judicial investigations to clarify the circumstances of the case and to identify other involved parties.
